Planters for Landscape Gardening

At Hillsigns I make a range of triangular and rectangular high quality planters, often to a customer's particular specification. Starting from the initial design the planters are made to whatever dimensions are required to perfectly fit the space available. Often it is just one planter but it can be several all designed to compliment one another. A landscape gardener may design a garden with corner planters matched with trough planters. I ensure that the planters are all designed to look like a set wit the shape of each complimenting the next.

Each planters is then made by hand. The tolerances are around +/-5mm on the largest planters and +/- 1mm on the smaller ones.

Each planter is designed and drawn by me for the customer to check and agree the dimensions and style.

All the materials I use a locally sourced including the re-purposed timber.

All the wood is planed, sanded and the cut to size before assembling using exterior grade D4 adhesive and mechanical fixings. Most of the screws are then covered with additional hand made trims to give a neat and clean finish.

The planters are usually mounted on a series of round feet made on my CNC machine. These lift the planter clear of the ground to ensure water and air can circulate.

My planters are assembled by hand and each layer bonded to the previous layer.

The planters can be square but triangular seems very popular. Both equilateral triangles and more irregular shapes. All designed to fit in a certain space perfectly.

Depending on the size these planters will be expected to support a huge amount of compost and water and so I add strengthening cross members to ensure

the planters does not distort in use.

All the planters have corner and top trim pieces specially made by me by hand and then glued and screws into place to ensure that the planters have a neat, clean lines finish. The Hillsigns logo is made by CNC using oak offcuts and bonded to the planter on the outside.

The planters are finished using an eco friendly anti-mould treatment and then a final coat to meet the customer's specification of either oil, to keep a natural look or sprayed with an exterior paint in whichever colour the situation requires. Grey, pink, black?

We then usually deliver the planters personally to most parts of mainland UK.

We recently delivered to Aberdeen one

week and to Winchester the next.

All made, by me, using locally

sourced materials here in Wales.
